Appearance: Shadow is a hedgehog built for speed, slim and small to provide for optimum speed and precision. His body is entirely covered in black fur with red streaks over his limbs and quills and a single tuft of white fur is in place on his chest. His quills are separated into six bundles, four of which curve upwards on the outside while the two in the center curve downwards. Shadow's eyes are a bright green in color and occasionally appear to be slits at times, making him almost catlike and demonic in appearance (particularly when angered). The corners of his eyes are lined with red fur, accenting the red lines on the rest of his body. His muzzle is tan and his mouth is often found in a thin line, though sharp fangs hide behind it. He wears naught but a pair of white gloves and air-shoes in addition to gold rings around his wrists and ankles.

Strange enough, Shadow also lacks...well, a shadow. When Mephiles becomes the more dominant personality of the two, Shadow has a purplish glow around his fur, leaving any red dyed a bright violet in color as well. The green in his eyes appears to glow slightly, and his voice grows more sinister in nature. In other words: When Shadow makes the change, it's very obvious.

Personality: Shadow is very much a loner by nature, preferring to keep to himself rather than share his company with others. His trust is only placed in those few who managed to prove themselves and it is not something he gives lightly. However, those who do happen to have his trust are protected with fierce loyalty, even if done from the sidelines. He is the type with a constant vigilance around him and is very hard to catch off guard, even in a relaxed state. This hedgehog will do anything to achieve his goals, including things that may seem underhanded or 'evil' by the general public. The only real rule he plays by is the promise he made 50 years ago to protect the people of Earth in order to give them a chance to be happy.

Shadow is extremely intelligent and quick of wit, and he gives off the air of being a very cold-hearted individual. Those who know him well enough may find that this isn't always the case, particularly when met with experiences that remind him of the past. Inside, Shadow is full of inner conflict and pain, though he does his best to put it behind him and stay focused on the present time and what he has to do. No matter what gets in his way, Shadow will just continue to fight like he always has.


Abilities/Strengths: Shadow's most obvious strength is his incredible speed, matched only by the famed Sonic the Hedgehog. Because of the Black Arms strain in his DNA, Shadow is ageless, heals rapidly, is immune to disease and is overall immortal. The Black Arms strain also gives him the ability to wield the powers of Chaos energy. The various abilities that come along with it are useful in times of crisis and some can be used with or without a Chaos Emerald. Chaos Control is one such ability, which allows Shadow to teleport and slow down time. When inducing Chaos Control, show turns light blue and vanishes in the blink of an eye, only to reappear elsewhere in a similar fashion. The hedgehog also makes use of Chaos Spears, which are bolts of Chaos energy sent at a target and can either stun or kill depending on the resilience of the opponent. Yet another ability is his Chaos Blast, which makes his entire body glow red with energy as it gathers, releasing and firing into a shockwave when it reaches its peak. Anything that touches the shockwave is either completely destroyed or severely damaged. Chaos Blast requires a Chaos Emerald, while Chaos Control and Chaos Spear do not (though their abilities are greatly weakened without one).



Shadow also has a wealth of physical strength (though not as strong as some of his counter parts), has knowledge of hand-to-hand combat, and can wield handheld weapons and vehicles of most types. He can also use an attack that involves curling up and firing himself at his enemies, using his quills to amplify damage when he collides with them. And finally, the gold rings that encircle his wrists and ankles bind his power to a manageable level. Should they be removed, his power would be amplified tenfold, but the aftermath would leave him weaker than usual and time to recover would be needed.

The god living inside of him, while keeping him immortal, adds on a lot of extra abilities as well. Most of these abilities lay dormant and Shadow prefers not to use them over his own and include power over dark energy, the ability to clone himself into copies (which are only an illusion), and the ability to charge his attacks with dark energy.

Weaknesses: Any time Shadow uses dark energy from Mephiles living inside him, it slows his mortal metabolism and makes him weaker. The fact that the god lives inside him causes more of a problem then Shadow likes to admit, seeing as Mephiles is still very much his own being inside the hedgehog. Should Shadow let his guard down or become weak even for a moment, its an opportunity for the more evil half to show himself and wreak havoc.

Besides this, Shadow carries a lot of weight on his shoulders emotionally. The ghosts of his past still haunt him very much to this day and can make him very manipulatable at times, depending on how much you know. Anything relating to Maria, his time in stasis, Black Arms (and all parties thereof), GUN, or Mephiles can set him off. Despite all this, he is still very stubborn and refuses help even when offered and tries his best to keep everything to himself, often making him a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

Notable Possessions: Shadow carries two Chaos Emeralds, one green and one yellow, left over from his final encounter with Mephiles the Dark.

History: Shadow's life began around 50 years ago when Professor Gerald Robotnik started his project to create the ultimate lifeform. He was commissioned by the government to find the key to immortality, which was accepted only due to the fact that Gerald's daughter, Maria Robotnik, had a severe case of NIDS (Neuro-immune deficiency syndrome). The bio-engineer believed that this project could possibly save her life, as the disease was currently incurable.

Shadow's life didn't change much from what his original story tells, all events occuring as usual until the Guardian Unit of Nations sends him to rescue Rouge from her own mission, which involved stealing a relic known only as the "Scepter of Darkness", which was birthed from the remains of the mysterious "Solaris Project". When the Scepter was broken, Solaris' conscious form was released from it, a shade by the name of Mephiles, who resurrected himself through Shadow's own shadow, giving him a similar appearence with watered down markings and bright green, cat-like eyes. It was obvious that Mephiles had taken a liking to targeting the Ultimate Lifeform, leaving him cryptic clues that eventually lead to the truth about his intentions to destroy the future, the past, and time itself.

Mephiles made sure to taunt Shadow with images from the future to come, such as an old, broken down Omega, a robot and an old ally of his. He was also shown in stasis for what would be the third time, informed that it was infact his ally Omega who would ultimately defeat and seal him away again. Tormented but unhindered, Shadow refused to join Mephiles in his quest to destroy time and took to the battlefield, using his full power to defeat Mephiles and weaken him. He tried unsuccessfully to reseal him in the Scepter of Darkness, which led the shade to threatening him, Rouge, and Omega with complete oblivion if Shadow didn't agree to assist him. Rightfully, Shadow refused and removed the rings that bound his power before rushing Mephiles at full power.

Mephiles had once again been weakened, but it was common knowledge by now that the shade was immortal, much like his other half, Iblis. The only way to truly defeat him was to seal him in a vessel, which it seemed only Shadow could do due to the connection between them. However, because Mephiles was more sentient than the rage-fueled Iblis, he is able to take control of his vessel from the inside every now and then when the lifeform is in a weakened state. In truth, it had been his plan all along...and Shadow is more possessed than a willing participant.
